Working On Exposure

When it comes to nailing exposure we have three means of controlling the outcome: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. Each of these independently will change just how dark or light an image will be as well as how much detail there will be. The above image has no editing and was taken in very harsh lighting conditions. I believe it was the harsh lighting conditions that made it difficult to have a nicely shaped bell curve on the histogram. The shot took a few minutes to compose as far as choosing the settings but ultimately I chose to shoot in Aperture Priority Mode to ensure I have a crisp background at f/11. I also set the ISO to a low 100 because we had plenty of light to work with. Then the camera adjusted shutter speed as required to maintain an appropriate exposure level. One thing I believe I could have spent more time on is metering the image to now lose any detail in the blacks or whites. In conclusion, I will need more practice working on getting a better looking bell curve and I believe metering will be the first step.
